How to read this

A returned ballot is one the county has received and logged, not one that has been counted; nothing is tallied until after 7 p.m. on November 3. Party is the voter's registration, not how they voted. Unaffiliated voters are half of Douglas County's rolls and routinely the largest share of early returns, so the Democratic-minus-Republican figure says how the two parties' registrants are pacing each other, nothing more.

Mail ballots dominate the early days and in-person voting at the county's 23 centers grows through Election Day. Comparisons to 2024 and 2022 use the prior-year release nearest the same number of days before Election Day; 2024 was a presidential year, so its totals run higher than a midterm's at every point.
