The take

The Littleton location of the 40-year-old Colorado Cajun-Creole chain. Beignets that hold up against Cafe Du Monde, a brunch-heavy menu, and a wait every weekend morning. The Highlands Ranch crowd's default New Orleans breakfast.

Why it's here

Lucile's Creole Cafe opened the Littleton location at 2852 W Bowles Avenue, technically across the line in Jefferson County but functionally the closest Lucile's to Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree at about a 12-minute drive from either. The original Lucile's opened in Boulder over 40 years ago; there are now seven locations across the Front Range, all family-owned and serving the same Creole-leaning breakfast and brunch menu. The Littleton spot is the south-metro outpost.

The beignets are the order. Four to a plate, served hot, dusted in enough powdered sugar that the table will be white when you finish. Reviews regularly compare them to Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, and that's not just a marketing line; the texture is denser and breadier than the New Orleans original (less of an air pocket inside) but the flavor and the fresh-from-the-fryer hit lands. They're not on the takeout menu and don't survive a 20-minute drive home; eat them in the dining room.

For breakfast proper, the Cajun Breakfast (red beans, poached eggs, hollandaise, grits) and Eggs New Orleans (fried eggplant, poached eggs, creole spice, hollandaise) are the two menu items locals re-order. The biscuits are the ones flagged in every other review; they're large, dense, and the gravy is built right. Coffee is fine, with chicory blends available; pricier than it should be, which is the most consistent gripe.

Weekend brunch waits run 30-60 minutes without a name on the list; weekday breakfast is the smarter window. The Littleton room is small enough that a six-top will get squeezed.

Know before you go

Go for
  • Beignets in the dining room (do not order takeout; they don't travel)
  • Cajun Breakfast or Eggs New Orleans for the savory side
  • Biscuits and gravy as a shareable second order
  • Weekday breakfast 9-11am to skip the weekend wait
Timing

Open 7am-2pm daily, breakfast and brunch only. Saturday and Sunday 9am-12:30pm have the longest waits, often 30-60 minutes. Weekday mornings are the calm window. Closes mid-afternoon; not a lunch or dinner option.

Pro tip

Add your name to the wait list via the Yelp app before driving over; you can shave 20-30 minutes off the door wait on a busy Saturday. Order the half order of beignets if you want to try them but not commit to four; they will accommodate the half ask.

Skip / heads up

Coffee prices run high, and the cup is fine but not destination-tier. The pancakes are competent but unremarkable next to the savory side of the menu; come for the eggs and biscuits, not the pancakes.
